Kvirc reconnects me automatically to the server, but surprise, after reconnecting, server says I am WORD/2 . It adds a "2" after my nickname. How can I solve the problem? KVIrc is using your alternate nicknames. You can set these in Settings > Configure KVIrc > Identity > Alternatives. It is appending that to your nick because your disconnection wasn't a complete disconnection and your main nick was still in use on the network. Also, when you setup your connection to freenode, you should set your settings on the main Freenode node. Currently KVIrc's list isn't updated correctly for Freenode's new naming scheme, so you can rename one of the "chat.xx.freenode.net" servers to "chat.freenode.net" and setup your information on that server. Once you've done this, set this server as the one to use when connecting and you'll always use the same information no matter what server you wind up connecting to on the Freenode network. To be auth'd correctly, you can set your Username and password in the server properties -> Identity field. You can also do so by typing "msg -q nickserv identify password" inside the "On Login" tab on your server's advanced options. Example: http://store.vortigaunt.net/u/kvirc-nickserv-identify.png Hope this helps. You can also join irc://chat.freenode.net/#kvirc if you need further clarification as well as using this list. -Michael On 2/10/2012 7:57 AM mihai mihai said unto kvirc at lists.omnikron.net: > Hi, > > I configured Kvirc (settings....configure servers). This pehnomenon is called "desync" and was very common in the past, when networks were slower. Now it's less common but as you see it still happens sometimes. The most probable source of desync is the freenode network itself. You've reconnected faster to 130.239.18.172 than 82.96.64.4 could tell it that you have disconnected first. To avoid this you can use a non round-robin server (or add one with a fixed ip address) so you will always reconnect to the same physical machine. There is also a small possibility that the source of the desync is the connection between you and the first server. If you end up using some kind of transparent proxy that drops the connection on your side but not on server side... in that case the whole IRC network is desynched with respect to you and you can't do much about it except wait for the ghost to die.... You can also write a short script that tries to regain your nickname automatically... -- Szymon Tomasz Stefanek ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - - Life is unfair... but root password helps - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From mihaita9999 at gmail.com Sat Feb 11 17:46:40 2012 From: mihaita9999 at gmail.com (mihai mihai) Date: Sat, 11 Feb 2012 18:46:40 +0200 Subject: [KVIrc] A little privacy on IRC servers Message-ID: Hi, I'd like to have some protection when using Kvirc on various servers.
